Industry

Industry is used to turn basic resources into finished products for construction, along with munitions and supplies for support and maintenance.

Goods types

Goods fall under several categories that indicate their place in the production cycle. Generally manufacturing proceeds from raw resources through refining and subsequent intermediate stages before being assembled into finished products. Some stages may be missed out, e.g. munitions are partly constructed directly from refined filaments

Type Description
Basic Resources (raw) Extracted from planets, satellites, asteroid belts, and filament fields
Basic Resources (refined) Purified form of raw resources, refined directly with no other inputs so easily done at the extraction site
Chemicals Intermediate good processed from refined basic resources
Agriculture Intermediate good cultivated with chemicals
Materials Intermediate good manufactured from refined basic resources and/or chemicals
Components Intermediate good manufactured from materials and/or chemicals and other components
Products Finished goods used as construction inputs, constructed from components, materials, and chemicals
Supplies Finished goods used for maintenance and support, assembled from intermediate goods
Munitions Finished goods as ammunition for effectors, produced from components and refined filaments
Merchandise A variety of luxury goods. See Rare goods

In terms of logistics, a distribution network of products, supplies and munitions is the minimum required to ensure fleets and facilities are able to function and expand. It is necessary to transport some raw or refined resources to a manufacturing facility, as filaments are never found in the same location as other basic resources. Intermediate goods can typically be kept local in a concentrated manufacturing facility right through to the finished goods.
